Listened to a fascinating radio programme today that recalled the sounding of Tutankhamun's pair of gold and silver trumpets for the first time in three thousand years. They were played in 1938 and legend has it that when played they would herald unrest: World War II broke out within a few months. During the recent unrest in Egypt, one was stolen and later recovered.

I had the opportunity to perform 'O Clap Your hands'  by R Vaughan Williams and John Rutter's 'Gloria' recently in Haddington Parish Church, East Lothian. In my opinion these pieces for choir and brass ensemble represent the very best in brass writing - they are thrilling to play.
