I went through the same process at he wind section about 18 months ago and ended up with a Bach 43. It's a myth more flexible instrument. I live in Edinburgh too, but can't find any groups to play with. No vacancies or orchestras that only run string pieces. In theist I did a lot of solo playing. I play piccolo trumpet and I have use a Schilke 4 valve Eb/ D trumpet as well.
Oops, poor spell checking there. Was going to say, if you know of anyone looking for a trumpet player let me know.
Thank you for your comments.
My experience is that Edinburgh has a great number of orchestras and bands and definitely not enough trumpeters. I guess it all depends what you fancy doing? I play in sinfonia and meadows plus numbers of other pick up bands - orchestras. Have you been in touch with Marian Kirton and Pam Brown, who do much of the fixing here?
On the other hand if you want to do solo playing IMHO the best plan is to work with a church organist on trumpet and organ repertoire. What do you think? Best wishes to you.
